Nandu,me and suchi di were in canteen checking out guys and proudly displaying the cool architecture of our only hang-out place to few others gals in the gang who came on a campus visit,the bell rang.suddenly me,didi and nandhu woke up pulling out the bedsheets..oh my god! we slept in canteen itself..once we came out running towards my classroom(yes! we have missed Jeyakodi Mam's class) i found the things around me weird.It was my school campus! It should not be like that! But how? Suddenly my dad's voice came from nowhere, telling its already late,the train will arrive in ten minutes.wait wait wait...i was really confused now,again a wake up call.. that's it..am out of my dream and sleep..and made sure that only in dreams such things would happen..it was a mix of my school,UG and PG days! i realised a new year had been born from the N number of calls i received by 12 am that night,while i dozed off by 9.30pm..its winter vacation what else could be done! And yes today grand pa is coming in Pandian express so need to go along with dad to pick him up..so woke up after a long hustle..it was 5.45am!! i brushed up my teeth and took my seat in car just like that.
We reached the station by 6.10am the train was supposed to arrive by 6.15am. I went to the ladies ticket counter and stood in a long queue.It was a heavy rush in the ticket counters,so i was patiently waiting for my turn.Suddenly i recognized a familiar face,it was K7 anna from MKU along with another guy,he was checking on each queue s and was found upset over the crowd.I waved him until he noted me,I was wearing a brown scarf around my head(My mom's order) and he took a few seconds to recognise me with that scarf.I offered him to take platform tickets and asked him to wait.
K7(Kesavan) Anna was my mentor at MKU during my summer project days.Me and Ahalya worked under him and learnt about x-ray crystallography,he planted the interest for structural biology in us and most important of all we learnt how patient one should be while performing experiments in lab.He gave us inspiration and his simple nature glued us to him easily. So i was very happy meeting him after six months,After buying the tickets i handed over to him,He was in a hurry, he was there to send off a friend in Vaigai express,which will depart by 6.45am so he left away after formal greetings.Holding the tickets in my hand i searched for my dad in that crowded station and got sight of him.
We were quite upset to know that Pandian exp was running late by 30 mins,Lucky we had the newspaper in hand and half of the time went in turning its pages,and by giving a longing sight at the coffee counters(Me & My dad are recently into homeopathy treatment and we are not supposed to take tea or coffee for a few days).My Dad is my best company,he keeps any moment alive by cracking jokes,modulating voices,playing with the kids around,giving a lot of information about any place we cross.the time just flies away when i roam with him,He never used to sit idle,he has got a lot of friends in railways so we both were wandering here and there to greet new year wishes to his friends.My dad was telling about railway people's slang today,he was checking whether the train was cited,and also was telling about the outer cross,related to trains arrival and how the railway workers talk to each other.
It was 6.55am.My dad jumped"Train cite aagiduchu" before the announcements came,so we started walking towards the A1-A2C coach!!(yes, that's how my aunt sent info via sms after sending off my grandpa from chennai) .we found two coaches names A1 and one coach holding H/R board in between these two coaches.So me and my dad followed a divide and conquer process.Somehow we both could not cite thatha! so we joined and went to the next adjacent coach and there i saw Venki!!! Ya its was the noble laureate Venkataraman Ramakrishnan, Structural biologist shared noble prize along with two other people for solving the structure of ribosomes.I was taken back by surprise.He was coming out of his coach with 1,2,..5 luggage's! he was struggling there.i just told hello sir,and murmured that he s venki into my dad's ears,he too wished hello and we both wished him our new year greetings.He too smiled and wished us back.Probably we were the first persons to wish him that early and first to wish him in Madurai too! Following him,an elderly person,clearly identified as a foreigner was cited and we helped him to get down too,he too was accompanying Venki along with another lady.I stopped looking for my grand pa..I was too happy to see a noble prize winner and went behind him taking photos.
My dad finally found my grand pa at the loo! We then moved to his coach took his luggage's among a lot of confusion with other elderly people s luggage's.nothing bothered me.I was just happy,had a good feel that i met two structural biologists early morning that too on a new year and that too wish with a brown scarf over my head!We arranged a battery car for thatha,which is free for elderly persons and it dropped him in the parking lot after a few minutes.It was around 7.15am by then.Even as i came outside,my eyes was searching for the great person it just encountered.There he was standing on the road with his luggage's and waiting for his organizer!!!
Seeing him,I was eager to introduce myself to him,But since he was in distress of waiting for someone,i did not want to cause him more disturbance. So was watching him from a distance.How Sad his state was...Such a great scientist,put up to wait for so long time..that too the train arriving late.No one seemed to recognize him! Later i googled and found the old man who came with him was Thomas Steitz who shared his noble prize for chemistry with Venki!One question raised in my mind. Will it be the same case if Rajnikanth arrives here..or even a side artist from cinema arrives? will we ever start respecting and worshiping science as we do for entertainment these days?

*** One Important thing is that Dr. Venki (Nobel Laureate), he dont know that whom he met, one future Scientist "Dr.Upasana". Later he will realize that and he will get appointment to meet her......:):
